Privacy Policy - Skelne
1. What Skelne does
Skelne lets a sighted helper teach one Android device the household objects a blind person needs to distinguish. The app compares live camera frames with that household's saved examples and speaks a name only when its local recognition evidence is sufficiently clear.
2. Data stored on your device
Skelne stores the information needed for your private household library:
- object names entered by a helper;
- reference photographs captured while teaching;
- numeric visual embeddings, calibration thresholds, ordinary-scene evidence, and correction history;
- recognition evidence summaries and app preferences; and
- if App Lock is enabled, a salted one-way hash of the dedicated App PIN and the selected biometric-lock preference.
This information remains in Skelne's private app storage. Skelne has no account, advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDK.
3. Camera and biometric access
Camera: requested when you teach objects, record ordinary scenes, or start recognition. Frames are processed on the device. Reference photographs are saved only for the household library; live recognition frames are not uploaded.
Biometric prompt: optional and used only to unlock Skelne through Android's system biometric service. Skelne never receives or stores fingerprint, face, or other biometric templates.
4. Network use and sharing
Skelne does not request the Android INTERNET permission and does not send household data to a server. No personal data is collected or shared by the app.
You can deliberately create an encrypted .skelne archive and choose its location through Android's document picker. The archive contains the household library but excludes App PIN and biometric settings. You control whether and how that file is transferred. A separate transfer code is required to decrypt it.
5. Feedback
The Send feedback action opens an email app with technical app and device details plus any message and reply address you choose to enter. Skelne does not send that email itself. Information is sent only after you review and send it in your email app, under the policies of your selected email provider.
6. Retention and deletion
Household data stays on the device until you delete an object, use Settings > Delete all household data, clear Skelne's app storage, or uninstall the app. Archives saved outside the app remain where you placed them until you delete them through Android or the storage provider you selected.
7. Accuracy and appropriate use
Skelne recognizes only user-taught household names and is designed to refuse uncertain matches. It is not a medical device, does not identify medicines or verify doses, and should not be used as the only basis for a health or safety decision.
8. Children's privacy
Skelne is a general accessibility utility and is not directed to children under 13. Because the app does not collect or transmit personal data, it does not knowingly collect children's personal information.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. The current version and effective date will remain available at https://privacy.saifullah.ai/skelne.html.
