Privacy Policy - RecallLens
1. Introduction and what RecallLens does
RecallLens is provided by Saifullah Ahad ("we", "us", or "our"). It searches and organizes product recall notices from public official sources, scans barcodes and label text, checks U.S. vehicle recalls, and lets users monitor products in a device-local watchlist.
Important: RecallLens is an independent information tool, not a government agency or recall authority. A candidate match must be verified against the linked official notice. No matching notice means only that no match was found in the sources checked at that time.
2. Data we collect and handle
Information stored locally: RecallLens stores cached public recall notices, source-refresh status, scan history, watchlist details (such as product name, brand, barcode, model, lot, year, and category), and app preferences in private app storage on the user's device. No RecallLens account is created.
Searches and lookups: search terms are sent over HTTPS to supported public recall services. A scanned food barcode may be sent to Open Food Facts to resolve product identity. Vehicle year, make, and model are sent to the U.S. NHTSA lookup API. These services receive ordinary network information such as the request and IP address and process it under their own policies.
Camera and recognized content: camera frames, barcode values, and recognized label text are processed on the device. RecallLens does not upload camera images or label photos to the developer.
ML Kit metrics: Google ML Kit may collect device information, application information, device or installation identifiers, performance metrics, and API usage metrics for diagnostics, analytics, maintenance, improvement, and abuse prevention. Google states that ML Kit's input images, recognized text, barcode contents, and recognition results are not sent to its servers.
3. How we use data
- To fetch, normalize, cache, search, and display public recall notices.
- To resolve a product fingerprint and explain possible notice matches.
- To run user-enabled watchlist checks and optional notifications.
- To remember app settings and source-refresh state.
- To diagnose and maintain ML Kit features through Google's SDK metrics.
4. Data sharing and third-party services
We do not sell personal data and do not use advertising, profiling, authentication, or an owned recall-data backend. RecallLens connects directly to these services when their related feature is used:
- OECD GlobalRecalls; France RappelConso; U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission; UK Food Standards Agency; and Government of Canada recall feeds.
- U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for vehicle recall lookup.
- Open Food Facts for optional barcode-to-product identity resolution.
- Google ML Kit / Google Play services for on-device barcode and text recognition and the metrics described above.
Retrofit, OkHttp, Room, WorkManager, CameraX, DataStore, Hilt, Coil, and other Android libraries support app operation but do not provide the developer with a separate user profile. Images displayed from a notice URL are requested from that source's host.
5. Retention, security, and deletion
RecallLens has no developer-operated user database. Local watchlist items remain until the user removes them, clears app storage, or uninstalls the app. Cached notices and scan history remain in private app storage and are pruned or removed when app data is cleared or the app is uninstalled.
Network requests use HTTPS and cleartext traffic is disabled. The recall database and secure preferences are excluded from Android cloud backup. Users can revoke Camera and Notification permissions through Android Settings > Apps > RecallLens > Permissions.
6. Send Feedback
The Send Feedback feature opens the user's email app with a draft. Nothing is sent automatically. If the user chooses to send it, the email may contain the typed message, optional reply email, RecallLens version, Android version, device manufacturer, and device model. The message is delivered to www.saifullah.ai@gmail.com and retained only as needed to respond, troubleshoot, and maintain support records. Users may request deletion by emailing the same address.
7. Children's privacy
RecallLens is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. It has no social features, public profiles, chat, or user-generated content. If you believe a child has sent personal information through a feedback email, contact us so it can be deleted.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, its sources, or legal requirements change. The current version and effective date will remain published at https://privacy.saifullah.ai/recalllens.
