1) Who we are
DeciBell is provided by Saifullah Ahad ("we", "us", "our"). Our website/portfolio is: https://saifullah.ai.
2) What this policy covers
DeciBell is a sound level meter that estimates surrounding loudness in real time using the device microphone. This policy explains what the app handles and what it does not.
3) Information we collect
DeciBell does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share personal data. The app has no account system, no user profile, no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, and no third-party tracking.
DeciBell requests only the Android RECORD_AUDIO permission. The microphone is used
only while the live meter is measuring. Audio samples are processed in memory to calculate an
approximate sound level. The app does not record audio, save audio files, upload audio, or send
audio anywhere.
DeciBell does not request the INTERNET permission, so the app cannot transmit data
from the device.
4) Local settings
The app stores one setting locally on your device: the calibration offset you choose for the meter. This setting is saved only in the app's local storage and is removed when you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage from Android Settings.
5) Sharing
DeciBell includes a share action that opens the Android share sheet with a short text reading, such as the estimated decibel level and category. Sharing happens only when you choose it. The app itself does not upload or transmit the reading.
6) How we use information
Because DeciBell does not collect data, there is no server-side use of information. Microphone input is used only on-device to estimate loudness while the meter is active.
7) Sharing and disclosure
We do not share personal information because we do not collect any.
DeciBell does not integrate any analytics, advertising, authentication, cloud, or tracking SDKs.
8) Data retention
We do not retain personal data. Calibration offset data remains only in local app storage until you clear app data or uninstall DeciBell.
9) Your choices and controls
- Microphone permission: you can allow, deny, or revoke microphone access in Android Settings > Apps > DeciBell > Permissions.
- Calibration: you can adjust the calibration offset inside the app.
- Reset app data: clearing app storage removes the local calibration offset.
- Uninstall: uninstalling the app removes DeciBell and its local settings.
10) Safety and accuracy note
DeciBell provides an estimate from a phone microphone. It is not a certified sound-level meter, hearing protection device, medical device, or occupational safety instrument. Phone microphones and automatic gain control can affect readings, especially at very loud levels.
11) Children's privacy
DeciBell is a general utility app and is not directed to children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
12) International transfers
DeciBell does not transfer any data internationally because it does not transmit data.
13) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at https://privacy.saifullah.ai/decibell.html and update the effective date above.
