Privacy Policy — SeeWell
SeeWell is a free, offline vision screening and eye care app. All health data stays on your device. No account is required. No data is uploaded or shared.
1) Who we are
SeeWell is developed and maintained by Saifullah Ahad ("we", "us", "our"), an independent software developer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Portfolio and contact: https://saifullah.ai
2) What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy describes what information SeeWell collects, how it uses that information, and the choices you have when you use the app. SeeWell is a personal vision screening and eye wellness tool, not a medical device.
3) Information we collect
SeeWell stores all information locally on your device only. No data is transmitted to any remote server, cloud service, or third party.
The following categories of information are stored locally on your device:
- Vision test results: Scores, timestamps, and test-type data for each completed vision test (visual acuity, colour vision, astigmatism, contrast sensitivity, Amsler grid, etc.). Stored in a local Room/SQLite database on your device.
- User profile: Optional fields you choose to fill in such as name, age, gender, whether you wear glasses or contact lenses, and known eye conditions. Used only to contextualise your test results. Never transmitted anywhere.
- Screen time data: Daily screen-on/off timestamps and break counts, measured locally on your device by a foreground service. Never uploaded.
- Eye exercise logs: Completion timestamps and exercise type for each session. Stored locally for streak and history display.
- App preferences: Settings such as dark theme, calibration data, reminder intervals, and language selection. Stored in local DataStore (key-value, device-only).
We do not collect or store names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise location, financial information, or any other personal identifier beyond what you optionally enter in your profile. Profile data is stored locally and is never transmitted.
4) How we use information
- Display your test results, history, and trend charts within the app.
- Provide personalised on-screen recommendations based on your test scores.
- Track your screen time and deliver 20-20-20 break reminders and exercise alerts that you configure.
- Calibrate test elements to your physical screen size for accurate vision test display.
- Remember your app preferences across sessions.
We use your information only to provide the features of the app. We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond operating the app on your device.
5) Third-party services and SDKs
SeeWell does not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting services that send data off your device.
The following libraries are included in the app. All processing performed by these libraries occurs entirely on your device:
- ML Kit Face Detection (by Google, on-device model) — used only for the optional camera-based distance estimation feature during test setup. Face data is processed on-device in real time and is never stored, saved, or transmitted. Camera frames are never recorded or uploaded. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Room / SQLite (AndroidX) — local database library. Stores all test data on-device only.
- CameraX (AndroidX) — camera preview library used only for the optional distance guide. No images are captured, stored, or transmitted.
- WorkManager (AndroidX) — used to schedule background notification workers for 20-20-20 reminders and exercise alerts. No data leaves the device.
- DataStore Preferences (AndroidX) — stores app settings locally.
- Hilt / Dagger (Google) — dependency injection framework used for app architecture only. No data collection.
6) Permissions and why we need them
7) Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, share, or disclose your information to any third party.
All information stored by SeeWell remains on your device. No data is transmitted to us, to analytics providers, to advertisers, or to any other external service.
The only exception would be if we were required to disclose information by applicable law or legal process — but since all data is stored locally on your device (not on any server we control), we do not have access to your personal data and cannot share it.
8) Data retention and deletion
All data is stored locally on your device for as long as you use the app. You can delete individual test results from the Test History screen within the app. You can clear all app data at any time via Android Settings > Apps > SeeWell > Clear Data. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
9) Your choices and controls
- Camera permission: Grant or revoke at any time via Android Settings > Apps > SeeWell > Permissions. Revoking camera access does not affect any vision test — only the optional distance guide is affected.
- Notification permission: Grant or revoke at any time via Android Settings > Notifications. Or disable specific reminder types from within the app's Settings screen.
- Data deletion: Delete individual results in the app, or clear all data via Android Settings > Apps > SeeWell > Clear Data, or by uninstalling the app.
- Profile data: You may edit or clear your profile at any time from the Profile screen within the app.
10) Security
Since all data is stored locally on your device, the security of your data is protected by your device's own security mechanisms (screen lock, encryption at rest if enabled on your device, etc.). We do not transmit data and therefore do not maintain any servers that could be compromised to expose your data.
11) Children's privacy
SeeWell includes a Child Vision Test screen that is intended for use by parents or guardians to screen their child's vision under adult supervision. The app is not directed to children as independent users, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. No personal data is transmitted regardless of who uses the app.
12) No ads, no monetisation of data
SeeWell is completely free with no advertisements and no in-app purchases. We do not monetise user data in any form. There are no sponsored content integrations, no affiliate tracking, and no data sold or licensed to any party.
13) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users within the app.
