Privacy Policy — DermAware
1) Who we are
DermAware is provided by Saifullah ("we", "us", "our"). Our website/portfolio is: https://saifullah.ai.
2) What this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use DermAware (the "App"). DermAware is an educational skin health awareness app that runs entirely offline on your device.
3) Information we collect
DermAware is designed to collect as little information as possible. Here is what the app handles:
- Profile information you provide: Name, age group, and skin type for each family profile you create. This data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted.
- Photos you take or select: Skin photos are processed entirely on your device using an on-device AI model (TensorFlow Lite). Photos are stored temporarily in the device cache and are never uploaded to any server.
- Analysis and symptom check results: Results from photo analyses and symptom checker sessions are stored locally in an on-device database (SQLite/Room) and are never sent anywhere.
- App preferences: Language selection, appearance mode (light/dark/system), reminder settings, and disclaimer acknowledgment are stored locally using Android DataStore.
DermAware does not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, location data, usage analytics, crash logs, or any other telemetry data. The app requires no internet connection and makes no network requests.
4) How we use information
All data handled by DermAware is used exclusively to provide core app features on your device:
- Display your profile name and preferences within the app.
- Run on-device AI analysis on photos you provide to suggest potential skin conditions for educational purposes.
- Store your analysis history so you can review past results.
- Schedule optional monthly skin check reminders if you enable them.
No data is used for advertising, marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the app's core features on your device.
5) Sharing and disclosure
We do not share, sell, or transmit any of your data.
DermAware operates entirely offline. There are no servers, no cloud services, no analytics providers, and no third-party SDKs that collect or transmit data.
The only third-party libraries used are:
- TensorFlow Lite: Runs the AI model locally on your device. It does not collect or send any data. (TensorFlow Lite Privacy)
- Jetpack libraries (Room, DataStore, CameraX, WorkManager, Navigation, Compose): Standard Android libraries by Google that operate locally on-device. None of these transmit data. (Android Jetpack)
- Coil: Used for loading images from local storage only. No network image loading. (Coil Documentation)
- Hilt (Dagger): Dependency injection framework. Does not collect or transmit any data. (Hilt Documentation)
There is no Firebase, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, AdMob, or any other analytics/advertising SDK in this app.
6) Data retention
All data is stored locally on your device for as long as you choose to keep it.
- Photos: Stored temporarily in the device cache directory. They can be cleared by clearing the app cache or by the system automatically.
- Analysis history: Stored in the local database until you delete individual entries or clear all history from the History screen.
- Profiles: Stored locally until you delete them from the Profile screen.
- Preferences: Stored locally until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
You can delete all your data at any time from within the app (Settings and History screens) or by uninstalling the app.
7) Your choices and controls
- Camera permission: Optional. You can deny camera access and use the gallery picker instead. Manageable in Android Settings > Apps > DermAware > Permissions.
- Photo/media permission: Required only if you want to select photos from your gallery. Manageable in Android Settings.
- Notification permission: Optional. Required only for monthly skin check reminders. You can disable reminders in the app's Settings screen.
- Delete analysis history: Delete individual entries or clear all history from the History screen.
- Delete profiles: Remove any profile from the Profile screen.
- Delete all data: Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data completely.
8) Security
All data remains on your device and is protected by Android's built-in app sandboxing. The app does not use network connections, so there is no risk of data interception during transmission. Photos and analysis results are stored in the app's private storage area, which is not accessible to other apps.
9) Children's privacy
DermAware includes a Family Profiles feature that allows parents and caregivers to create profiles for children. Since all data is stored locally on the device and no data is collected or transmitted, the app does not pose privacy risks specific to children. However, the app is intended for use by parents/caregivers on behalf of children, not by children independently.
10) International transfers
DermAware does not transfer any data across borders or to any server. All processing and storage happens locally on your device, regardless of your location.
11) Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy at privacy.saifullah.ai/DermAware and update the effective date above.
