1) Who we are

2) What BiteSift does
BiteSift helps you review packaged-food ingredient evidence against an avoid profile. It can read a barcode with the camera, look up public product fields from Open Food Facts, or review ingredient text you type. It separates declared allergens, trace statements, ingredient matches, and missing source fields.
Important: BiteSift is an evidence aid, not a medical service or a guarantee that a food is suitable. Always verify the current package label and manufacturer guidance. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice.
3) Information handled on your device
The following information may be stored only in BiteSift's private app storage:
- Your selected allergens and custom ingredient phrases.
- Ingredient text you type for local review.
- Saved products, private notes, lookup history, and cached product fields.
We do not receive this local information. BiteSift has no account system, advertising SDK, analytics SDK, crash-reporting SDK, developer-operated backend, or cross-app tracking.
4) Barcode lookup and Open Food Facts
When you choose to look up a barcode, BiteSift sends that barcode over HTTPS to the public Open Food Facts service. Open Food Facts also receives ordinary network request information such as your IP address, device/network headers, and request time. Its handling is governed by its own policies.
Product records are community-maintained and may be incomplete, outdated, or different from the package in front of you. Typed label review remains available without a product lookup.
5) Camera permission
The optional CAMERA permission is used only while the barcode scanner is visible. Camera frames are processed for barcode recognition and are not saved, uploaded, or shared by BiteSift. You can deny or revoke this permission and type a barcode instead.
6) Network permissions
INTERNET is used for HTTPS product lookup. ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE is used to show connection-aware errors and use cached fields when available. BiteSift does not request location, contacts, storage, microphone, phone, advertising ID, or background access.
7) Sharing, sale, and advertising
We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising. The optional Share action opens Android's share sheet only when you choose it. The destination app you select handles the shared text under its own privacy terms.
8) Retention and deletion
Local profiles, saved evidence, notes, history, and cache remain on your device until you delete them. Use Privacy → Delete all app data inside BiteSift to erase the app's local data, clear BiteSift's storage in Android Settings, or uninstall the app.
9) Security
Remote product lookups use HTTPS encryption in transit. Local information is kept in Android's private app storage. No method of storage or transmission is completely risk-free.
10) Children's privacy
BiteSift is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11) International processing
Open Food Facts infrastructure may process barcode requests and network metadata in countries outside your own. BiteSift's developer does not operate that service or receive its server logs.
12) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or legal requirements change. The latest version will remain at privacy.saifullah.ai/BiteSift.html with a revised effective date.
